Oh, the beeper-wearing, big-glasses-having software engineers that designed Windows 3.x never could have foreseen this: an industrious young Pole has installed the OS on his futuristic “Enn Ninety-Five” hand-held electronic voice paging device.
Technically the installation isn’t native, but it runs pretty convincingly through the Symbian version of DOSbox. The process only took developer Marcin-PRV one day, and he has intentions to move forward with other OSes because, well, that’s what he does. In its current state, 3.1 on the N95 is sort of usable.
The OS renders at the correct resolution and in color, there appears to be cursor control, and apps launch and run like they should. Text input is limited to numbers, because 3.1 wasn’t exactly designed with, you know, T9 compatibility in mind. The developer thinks he might also be able to replicate his experiment with Windows 95—the only holdup, he says, is the N95’s low resolution. [OSNews via Engadget]

British website Mobile Today is claiming that the LG GD910 Watch Phone will sell on the Orange network across Europe for about £1,000, which is the rough equivalent of $1500 USD.
A £1,000 pricetag would seem to make sense, since it this is a boutique item and it was announced last week that Orange would be the official carrier, but source attribution in the article is close to nonexistent, so it’s tough to say where this originated from. If this price rumor is indeed true one has to wonder if $1500 is worth living out childhood retro-futuristic dreams. [Mobile Today via CrunchGear]

Gin Rummy has always been one of my favorite card games. These days I mostly play Old Maid and Go Fish but when I get a few minutes with my wife we play Gin.
I’ve been quite surprised that there hasn’t been a good Gin game on the iPhone so I was happy to see that PressOK recently released Gin Rummy Deluxe on the iPhone.
If you’re not familiar with how to play Gin, there is a straightforward tutorial that walks you through gameplay. If you know how to play, the first thing you do is create an avatar which will be your representation in the game. Once you’ve created your avatar you get matched up against one of the in-game players which include various humans and a panda.
One of the entertaining parts of the game is the ability to taunt your opponent and they taunt you back. You select from a drop-down of pre-selected taunts.
The gameplay is very straightforward and the artwork is solid. I would like to be able to add my own taunts to the game and I would like to be able to sort the cards manually (vs. the three ways the game lets you) but otherwise I don’t have too many suggestions to improve the game. It’s fun.
PressOK is selling it for an introductory price of $2.99 from iTunes. If you’re a fan of Gin Rummy, give it a shot!

If you’ve sold your soul to Best Buy’s Reward Zone program, you can knock $50 or even $100 off an iPhone 3G this week.
Unfortunately, Best Buy isn’t using the promotion to grab new members—you need to have been a Reward Zone member since at least Feb. 21. But if you’re a regular (free) Reward Zone member, it’s $50 off the iPhone 3G this week with a new two-year activation. If you’ve got a Premier Silver membership (I don’t know even wanna know what you have to do to earn that distinction), then it’s a whole $100 off.
The lesson, kids, is that if sign up this week for Reward Zonemaybe you’ll get $100 off the iPhone 4G when it comes out. [Best Buy - Thanks Brady]

HTC has confirmed that their touchscreen / QWERTY slider Touch Pro2 will be available in all major markets—including North America.
However, there isn’t much as far as specific details are concerned. The exact date that it might arrive has not been determined (although they did note that launch should take place in Q2 ). Whether features like 3G compatibility will be added to the Pro2 for it’s US debut also remains to be seen. [Twitter and Twitter via Electronista]
