Playing Poker on your Mobile Phone

How to Start a Mobile Poker Account

Online poker is a huge industry, and without it, the number of people playing poker today would probably be greatly reduced. One of the things that drew people to online poker was the ability to learn and play without making the effort to find a brick and mortar casino and without the self-consciousness that might come with being surrounded by players who know the game better than you. Now, even more people can enjoy poker through mobile gaming. If you’re new to the idea of mobile poker, here’s what you need to know.

The Mobile Device

It starts with your mobile device. It could be a PDA, cell phone, or any device that communicates wirelessly. Not all mobile devices will function with the mobile gaming application, but most of the newer ones will. To find out if your device is enabled for online poker, simply go to an online poker site that offers mobile gaming. In most cases, if you go to one of the more popular online poker sites you will find that they have a mobile poker option.

Downloading the Application

Once you’ve confirmed that your device is compatible, simply follow the instructions provided to download and activate the application. This should take only a few minutes. Once the downloading and activation process is complete, you’ll be ready to play. If there is any problem with the process, it will probably be addressed in the site’s mobile gaming FAQ. If not, you can go online and talk to support personnel for the site.

Playing Online Poker

Once you’re set up, it’s time to play. If you’ve never played online poker before, you’ll need to set up an account. This is a simple process involving creating a screen name and password and loading an account with funds. If you have played online poker before, you can access mobile poker using your online login and password. Once your account is active and you are logged in, just play poker as you would normally. Remember to play your best game, as the results of mobile poker are just as real as the results of any other online poker that you might play.

9 Year Old Writes iPhone Application

Posted in News on Thursday, February 5th, 2009 at 11:20 am No Comments

So, is the age of 10 becoming the new benchmark for career success? We already have an 8-year old Microsoft Certified Professional and now we can add a 9-year old iPhone developer to the list.

The 9-year old I am speaking of is Lim Ding Wen from Singapore, and the app he developed is called Doodle Kids. Designed with his artistic younger sisters (aged 3 and 5) in mind, the app allows users to draw shapes in random colors and then clear their work with a shake of the phone. Since its launch two weeks ago, the freebie app has attracted over 4000 downloaders.

Apparently, Lim is fluent in six programming languages and started using the computer at the age of two. Since then, he has completed over 20 programming projects. Currently, he is in the process of developing a game called Invader Wars, which he hopes to launch on the App Store in the near future. His father, who also writes iPhone applications, claims that they check their statistics every night in a friendly father/son competition.

Man, this makes the “Clean Desk Award” I earned in 3rd grade seem like total crap. [Reuters via Digg]

Samsung 8MP Touchscreen Memoir Cellphone Is the US’s First

Posted in News on Wednesday, February 4th, 2009 at 11:46 pm No Comments

The Samsung Memoir could easily be mistaken for a real camera. On one side is a full touch-screen, and on the other is an 8-megapixel camera, 16x digital zoom, and Xenon flash.

The phone, which we first saw hints of in December, will run on T-Mobile’s 3G network. Besides the 8-megapixel camera, it also has a full-touch virtual QWERTY keypad, a music and video player, built in GPS, and Bluetooth.

Samsung Memoir™ Captures and Shares High-Quality Images
With Advanced Features and Touch Screen

DALLAS, and BELLEVUE, WASH. — Feb. 5, 2009 — Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung Mobile) and T-Mobile USA, Inc., today announced the upcoming availability of the Samsung Memoir™, a full touch-screen mobile phone equipped with an 8-megapixel camera and premium multimedia features, placing it among the highest quality imaging phones available in the U.S.

The Memoir, available exclusively from T-Mobile, is designed to look and feel like a customer’s current point-and-shoot digital camera. The built-in 8-megapixel camera with Xenon flash, 16x digital zoom and five shooting modes empower customers to capture exceptional photos and videos from their phone — whether they’re on the go, on a vacation or just hanging out around the house.

The touch-screen phone, enabled by Samsung’s TouchWiz™ user interface and powered by T-Mobile’s high-speed 3G network, makes sharing photos easy. Samsung’s new photo widget allows customers to post images taken with the Memoir directly to their favorite online photo sharing source, such as flickr®, Kodak® Gallery, Photobucket and Snapfish.

“With the 8-megapixel Samsung Memoir, T-Mobile customers can capture and share little slices of life in all their vibrant brilliance,” said Denny Marie Post, chief marketing officer, T-Mobile USA. “With the ability to share photos at your fingertips, the Memoir helps make those connections more meaningful by their immediacy.”

The Memoir’s full-touch virtual QWERTY keypad and multiple messaging capabilities, including text, multimedia messaging, instant messaging and e-mail, make staying connected quick and easy while on the go. The Memoir is complete with a music and video player and built-in Assisted GPS navigation, which allows customers to utilize location-based services including turn-by-turn directions. For hands-free use, the Memoir features stereo Bluetooth® technology, speakerphone and voice-activated dialing.

“This is the camera phone that will make people want to leave their digital camera at home,” said Bill Ogle, Chief Marketing Officer for Samsung Mobile. “When you combine the Memoir’s imaging capabilities, customizable menus and music player, not only is it a great phone, but the entertainment possibilities are unlimited.”

T-Mobile’s 3G coverage available in select markets. Samsung Memoir also works on T-Mobile’s 2G network. See coverage maps at T-Mobile.com

LG Arena KM900 Is the Most Unabashed iPhone Look-A-Like Yet

Posted in News on Wednesday, February 4th, 2009 at 2:40 pm No Comments

I don’t harbor a fanboy grudge with any company borrowing the iPhone’s UI. Large buttons that are easy to press, a black background for colors that pop—these are good ideas for every touchscreen phone.

The LG Arena KM900, slated for a Europe release this March, is about as close as you can get to the iPhone without releasing a straight-up clone. Actually, scratch that. The KM900 is just as convincing as most iPhone clones out there. Even the icons, like those for music, calling, the calendar, calculator and settings are frighteningly close to Apple design.

But it’s not an Apple design because it’s made by LG. And that will make many of you happy and many of you sad. [All About Phones via Unwired Review]
